The Lagos State government has banned the operations of commercial motorcyclists (Okada) in four more local government areas in the state.

Frederic Oladeinde, the state Commissioner for Transport, made the announcement on Thursday, noting that the state government extended the ban in the best interest of residents and for security reasons.

The newly affected local government areas and local council development areas include: Kosofe Local Government; Ikosi-Isherri LCDA, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government; Isolo LCDA, Shomolu Local Government; Bariga LCDA, Mushin Local Government; Odi-Olowo LCDA.

The ban will take effect from September 1.

In May, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos placed a total ban on commercial motorcycles in six Local Government Areas (LGAs), which took effect on June 1. In compliance with the directive, security operatives impounded several motorcycles seized from operators in restricted areas.
