FCT: Over 4000 people involved in road accidents in 2020 – FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has said that at least 4,532 people were involved in road traffic accidents in the Federal Capital Territory in 2020.
The Corps sector commander in Nigeria’s capital city, Gora Wobin, told reporters on Monday that no fewer than 201 persons lost their lives in the road crashes last year.
Mr. Wobin disclosed that 1,223 vehicles were involved in accidents in the FCT in 2020, leading to 1,728 injuries while 2,603 survived crashes.
The sector commander noted that the FCT also recorded 994 road traffic accidents in the year under review, representing a 14 percent drop from 2019 when 1,042 crashes were recorded.
The official stated that the latest figures represent varying degrees of reduction from those obtained last year.
Mr. Wobin attributed incessant road crashes in the country’s capital to speed limit violation, overloading, tyre bursting while driving, dangerous overtaking, and lack of concentration by motorists.
