The commander said there has never been any report of disregard to international human rights or international humanitarian laws by the task force.

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) is working in compliance with the rules of engagement in combating insurgency along the shores of Lake Chad, the force commander has assured.

Abdul Khalifa, a major general, commanding the MNJTF, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the task force headquarters in N’Djamena.

This is according to a statement on Wednesday by Captain Benn Raphael, a spokesman for the military task force.

The commander said there has never been any report of disregard to international human rights or international humanitarian laws by the task force.

Mr Khalifa briefed the delegation on the MNJTF mandate, including resettlement of displaced persons back to their communities in Baroua, Niger Republic, Malafatori, Nigeria, Kolofata, Cameroon and Litri in Chad.

He lauded the humanitarian services and neutral position of ICRC in conflicts, and urged them not to relent in that direction.

In his remarks,  the ICRC Chief of Operation, Alfa Mamadu Djalo, who spoke on the mandate of the organisation, commended the task force for the successes recorded in its operations.

Mr Djalo urged the task force to respect rules of engagement and always contact relations of arrested persons during its operations.

He reiterated the commitment of ICRC to facilitating dialogue in the resolution of conflicts.
