Saudi Arabia has decried Iran’s attack on its supertanker (Sidr) while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the death of the tanker’s crew members.

In a statement on Wednesday, the country’s ministry of foreign affairs also condemned Iranian attacks targeting Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait and affired solidarity with the “brotherly countries and its support for all measures they take to safeguard their security and sovereignty against any threat.”

Saudi Arabia also stressed the need to halt escalation and respect the security and safety of international navigation, security of global energy supplies, principles of good neighborliness, sovereignty of states, Charter of the United Nations, and international law and norms.

It called on parties to show restraint, halt escalation, respect international law, and return to negotiations and peaceful solutions.

The BBC reported that the attack resulted in the death of two Filipino sailors.
