Explosion rocks gas station near RCCG camp

A gas station exploded near the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) camp on Monday.
Footage posted on social media shows flames and smoke pouring out of a building near the church campsite.
A statement issued by Adeseye Margaret, director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said that the incident occurred on Monday morning.
She said no injuries were recorded, but four stationed gas trucks were severely burnt, adding that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
“The Fire which was reported at 11:22 hours, Monday, was subdued from causing secondary incidents by the Alausa and Ilupeju fire crews, leaving four stationed gas trucks severely burnt,” she said.
“There was neither case of injury nor death as damping down of the Fire has been concluded.
“The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of this report as preliminary investigation is on- going and will be made public. Meanwhile, the area is safe and people can go about their lawful businesses without fear,” the director added.
Similarly, the management of RCCG confirmed the explosion in a press statement on its Facebook page on Monday, adding that the explosion occurred near the church camp.
“Against the news making the round, the incident was completely outside of the Redemption City and our fire service team only responded as part of our community service support to our neighbours within the environ,” the church said.
The church stated that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Axella Gas depot on the Sagamu-bound traffic between the Car Park C gate and the camp’s main gate.
The organisation said the fire was put out by the combined efforts of the RCCG Fire Service and Lagos State Fire Service, with the cause of the fire outbreak still yet to be ascertained.
“We wish to inform all residents and visitors to the Redemption City that there is no scare of any sort and everyone can go about their lawful and godly activities,” the church added.
