Bauchi: Vigilantes arrested for raping housewife at gunpoint

The police command in Bauchi has arrested two vigilantes for raping a housewife at gunpoint in Dogon-ruwa village in the Ningi local government area.
The command spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday in Bauchi.
He said the Ningi Police Division was alerted by the woman’s husband of the incident.
Mr Wakil said the two suspects, Lawali Sule and Babangida Shehu, both members of a vigilance group in Dogon-ruwa village, were later arrested by detectives.
He said the incident occurred on Thursday, at about 2:00 a.m., when the two suspects conspired and stormed the woman’s home armed with Dane guns.
According to the police, the armed vigilantes asked for her husband, who was not at home and threatened her with guns before raping her.
The police added that the victim was taken to Ningi General Hospital for medical examination, where it was confirmed that there was penetration.
The suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime during an investigation, said the police. The command’s spokesman also mentioned that the two guns were recovered from the suspects as an exhibit.
The police statement added that another suspect, Mato Yohannah, 27, was arrested for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in Jimbin village, Ganjuwa local government area.
According to police, the suspect had confessed that it was the second time he had raped a minor. The statement said the three suspects would be prosecuted to ensure justice for the victims.
