Crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) took a new twist on Monday, with the inauguration of a caretaker committee by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

Kingsley Ogga, the chairman of the forum of state chairmen of the party performed the ceremony in Abuja.

Mr Ogga said the inauguration was necessitated by the expiration of the tenure of the former chairman of the party, Ralph Nwosu, urging the committee to direct the activities of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He said the members of the committee were selected from different parts of the country to ensure geographical spread.

Mr Ogga named some members of the committee to include Patricia Akwashiki, chairperson; Kenneth Odion, secretary and Anglia Johnson, a member.

Speaking, Ms Akwashiki promised to work to ensure the smooth running of the party.

“We are all part of the party, and ADC is supreme. We should all respect ourselves and act according to what is expected of us.

“The law given to us by NEC said six weeks, and we will try to work and bring peace to the party within the time given to us.

“We don’t want any crisis in our party. There is no crisis in the party, we are all stronger together, and we are solidly behind our candidates,’’ she said.

Ms Akwashiki assured that the party would go out to campaign in unity bringing all rifts to a peaceful end.

Twenty-seven state chairmen of the party had on August 26 passed a Vote of No Confidence on Mr Nwosu, urging him to resign.

Last Friday, Mr Nwosu suspended the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, over alleged anti-party activities, a move that was faulted by state chairmen.
