We want to enjoy our entitlements while alive, not dead, Ogun pensioners tell Gov. Abiodun

Pensioners in Ogun have appealed to the state citizens to prevail on Governor Dapo Abiodun to promptly pay them their entitlements.
The pensioners, under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Ogun chapter, appealed for a protest in Abeokuta on Tuesday, to compel the governor to redeem his promises based on equity, justice and fairness.
The pensioners carried placards with inscriptions, including “Governor Dapo Abiodun, stop paying lip service to the rights of senior citizens in the state.”
The state NUP chairman, Waheed Oloyede, said the protest was to drive home their demands because pensioners’ entitlements should be enjoyed only on earth and not in the grave.
He said the union was committed to the memorandum of agreement reached between the labour organisation and the state government on behalf of the pensioners.
He expressed displeasure over the governor’s failed promises to alleviate the sufferings of the pensioners by prompt payment of their gratuities and other entitlements.
Mr Oloyede appealed to the governor not to deny the pensioners their entitlements.
Addressing protesters at the state secretariat, Tokunbo Talabi, the Secretary to the State Government, assured the pensioners of a quick response to their demands.
“We are trying our best to make sure that all your demands are urgently attended to.
“You have a legitimate right to make these demands, but we are currently being face with limited resources,” he said.
