Defection: Yahaya Bello, Fani-Kayode sing discordant tunes

Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello has said opposition figure, Femi Fani-Kayode, has finally joined the All Progressives Congress APC party.
Mr. Bello made the revelation in a video making the rounds on the internet barely a day after Mr. Fani-Kayode met with him and the Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni on Wednesday.
“Our brother and friend, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has joined our party in good faith. He is joining our party to come and add his own positive energy and make contribution into ensuring APC is a party to beat,” he said.
Mr. Fani Kayode, a former aviation minister and a member of the opposition party People Democratic Party, PDP, has been a vocal critic of the presidency and the ruling party APC.
Mr. Fani-Kayode, however denied Mr. Bello’s claims via a tweet on his official Twitter page, saying his meeting with Mr. Bello was a ‘political consultation.’
“Though we have had meetings across party lines and we are in a season of political consultation I have not left the PDP,” he tweeted.
A senior official of the APC governor’s forum, Salihu Lukman, had earlier rejected Mr. Fani-Kayode defection plan in a press statement on Tuesday.
“The speculation is that Fani-Kayode is on his way to join the APC. The verdict in most media platforms is quite disturbing,” he said, adding that “not everyone should be welcomed into the All Progressive Congress”
“Fani-Kayode has fabricated stories, distorted, insulted, and damaging information about our party and our leaders,” Mr. Lukman added.
