World Egg Day: Poultry association donates eggs to 600 pupils in Jos

Poultry Association of Nigeria in Plateau says it has donated 20 crates of eggs to no fewer than 600 pupils of Jos-based Obasanjo Model School  to mark the 2022 World Egg Day.

Speaking during the event, Johnson Bagudu, the chairman of the association in the state said that the gesture was  aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle among the youngsters.

Mr Bagudu  said that the theme of the year “Eggs for Better Life is timely”, insisting that everyone needs eggs for proper growth and development.

Mr Bagudu, who maintained that egg remained an important food that nourishes the body, called on parents to ensure that  their children eat the delicacy on a daily basis.

“Egg is very key to the growth and development of children; it is also very good for adults too.

“In spite of the economic challenge, egg is still affordable and we expect Nigerians to consume at least one daily

“We are here to mark this special day with this pupils and encourage them to consume egg from this tender age,” he said.

In a short presentation, Dr Boman Stephen, a nutritionist from University of Jos Teaching Hospital, emphasised the importance of egg as food to children’s development.

Mr Stephen, who was represented by Naimat Salahuddeen, said that eggs “are healthy for the heart, a good source of protein and provide good cholesterol to the  body, among other relevance.

She, however, warned that eggs must be handled properly to avoid contamination which could lead to sickness.

The nutritionist appealed to parents to feed their children with an egg daily for proper growth and development.
