Student arraigned for stealing driver’s phone

A student, Michael Okolie, 27, on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing a cell phone worth N56,000.
Mr Okolie, who resides at Ikosi, Ketu, Lagos State, appeared on one of two-count charges of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate O.A. Daudu.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant and some others at large committed the offences on October 3 at 11:30 a.m. at Abiola Garden Roundabout, Ojota Expressway, Lagos State.
Mr Bassey said that the defendant, who boarded the car of the complainant, Bolajoko Oyedeji, as a passenger, conspired with others and stole Mr Oyedeji’s phone while alighting from the vehicle.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Ms Daudu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties.
She ordered that the home and office addresses of the sureties must be verified.
The magistrate adjourned the case until November 1 for hearing.
