Police doing ‘a good job’ in Lagos, says PSC

Amid widespread claims of continued extortion and brutality in Lagos, the Police Service Commission (PSC) says the security force is doing a good job.
The claim was made when the PSC commissioners visited Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday, led by the acting chairman, Clara Ogunbiyi (a retired justice), at the Lagos House, Marina.
Ms Ogunbiyi commended Mr Sanwo-Olu’s administration on security, urging other governors to imitate his handling of the security situation in Lagos.
The PSC chair pointed out that “Lagos is a model of how to handle security situations.”
Ms Ogunbiyi added, “The police are doing a good job in Lagos, and they could also replicate in all other states and parts of the country. This is basically why we are here, to appreciate the governor and that he should continue with the good work.”
She also explained that the police commission would ensure that the Nigeria Police work within the law’s ambit and are well looked after.
Mr Ogunbiyi stated that the PSC would ensure that people have confidence in the police.
On Thursday, the police tear-gassed peaceful demonstrators marking the second anniversary of the Lekki Tollgate massacre in the wake of the 2020 #EndSARS protests.
