Nationwide Strike: Aviation workers to shut down Port-Harcourt airspace

National Union of Air Transport Employees says it will shut down the entire airspace of the Port Harcourt International Airport from Monday morning.
Felix Ohwoefe, one of the union’s leaders, told Peoples Gazette on Saturday that the shut down would be in solidarity with the association’s mother unions: NLC and TUC.
According to him, it is an injustice for the government to increase electricity tariff and fuel price when salaries are not increased and most workers have lost their job amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The union leader described the action of the government as being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.
“How do we survive the increment? What palliative has the government given to increase fuel and electricity tariff”, Ohwoefe said.
Several affiliate organisations and civil society groups have vowed to lead a nationwide protest from Monday, September 28.
The government has initiated talks with labour leaders to prevent the strike from grounding the country’s already ailing economy.
