Thousands of Congolese took to the streets on Sunday to protest against the M23 rebel group, a militant group fighting in the eastern part of DR Congo.

The Catholic Church in the country directed the Congolese to participate in a peace march on Sunday against the M23 rebels, a militant group DR Congo accused the Rwandan government of supporting.

Church leaders are calling on foreign countries to take a tougher stance against the Rwandan government for supporting the militant group.

Placards at protests in Kinshasa opposed the balkanisation of the country and spoke about the hypocrisy of foreign countries.

Some East African countries are sending in troops, but in the past, the involvement of foreign armies only complicated the conflict in eastern DR Congo.
