NSF: Team Delta sweep gold at men, women hurdles

Team Delta won gold in both men and women categories of the 110m and 100m hurdles finals of the National Sports Festival (NSF) on Thursday.
New kid on the block, Precious Okonye, set the main bowl of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba agog, when he ran a personal best time of 14:23s to clinch the 110m hurdles gold medal.
Samuel Osadolor representing Edo won the silver medal with the time of 14:26s while Martins Ogieriakhi from Bayelsa state came third with the time of 14:52.
In the 100m hurdles final, Stella Ayaleke returned in the time of 13:58s while Grace Ayemoba from Oyo State ran the time of 13:65s to win silver, while Oluwakemi Francis-Peterson of Delta won bronze with the time of 14:20s.
Okonye in an interview said that the win was unexpected because he was not fully fit before the sports festival.
“I am so happy, I don’t know that I can run this fast because before this tournament, I was stressed.
“The win is the first major win of my career even running at my personal best.
“The future is bright for me and one of this days in the nearest time, I should be the fastest in Nigeria,” he said.
