Nigerian top boxer Efe Ajagba headlined his first 10-round main event in Verona, California against Stephan Shaw and found a way to win just the fourth unanimous decision of his career.

Stephan Shaw, who came into the fight undefeated at 18-0, was a late replacement for the injured Oscar Rivas and was looking to take the opportunity to jump up in the rankings to get a big fight.

Ajagba on the other hand was looking for his second win in a row to move up in the division and look for bigger fights against more relevant opponents.

Both fighters fought cautiously but Ajagba showed the new wrinkles he added to his game in training by controlling the fight with his jab and not chasing power shots. He landed more jabs than his opponent landed total punches for the duration of the fight.

While it was not the most exciting fight, it was impressive that he showed new skills and came away with a win in a spotlight fight that was built around him.

All judges scored the fight 96-94. He now moves to 17-1.
