A witness who spoke to the newspaper said the PDP chieftain was shot several times by the assailants who had laid in wait for him.

Charles Oke, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chairman in Ogbaku Ward in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, was shot by gunmen on Saturday night.

Mr Oke was attacked in his hometown of Umunomo Nsokpo in the Ogbaku community, per Vanguard report.

He is said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

A witness who spoke to the newspaper said the PDP chieftain was shot several times by the assailants who had laid in wait for him.

Michael Abattam, the police spokesman in the state, did not immediately respond to Peoples Gazette requests for comments on the matter.

Meanwhile, some residents of the Ogbaku community have called on security agents to increase their surveillance of the area due to a rise in criminal activities in the Ogbaku community.
