Liverpool end Newcastle’s 17-match unbeaten run

Liverpool on Saturday beat Newscastle 2-0 to push for top-four finish in the English Premier League season.
The Reds ended Newcastle’s 17-match unbeaten run at St James’ Park.
Just 10 minutes into the game, Darwin Nunez opened scoring for Liverpool, striking in a pass brilliantly floated by Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds doubled their lead seven minutes later as Gakpo brilliantly brought Mo Salah’s pass down before burying the ball into Newcastle’s net.
Newcastle’s comeback hope was damaged as they were reduced to 10-man after goalkeeper Nick Pope was shown the red card for handling the ball outside the box 22 minutes into the game.
The home side went into the first half break two goals behind the visitors. But both teams produced no goal in the second half.
With 35 points in 22 games, Liverpool are pushing for a possible top-four finish this season having started poorly.
Newcastle are 4th on the log with 41 points in 23 games.
