Arsenal wallop Everton to go five points clear; Liverpool overpower Wolves

Arsenal have gone five points clear off the top of the Premier League table following an emphatic 4-0 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
The first half of the encounter was relatively quiet despite Arsenal dominating most parts of the early minutes until the 40th minute when Gunners’ ‘star boy’ Bukayo Saka fired a fierce right-footed shot into the roof of the net to put the hosts ahead.
Then Gabriel Martinelli doubled inside the added minutes of the first half as the Gunners went into the halftime break with a comfortable two-goal advantage.
Arsenal’s dominance continued in the second half of the game, and their performance was rewarded with a 71st goal by Martin Ødegaard from a clean-cut pass from Leandro Trossard.
Then nine minutes later, Martinelli scored his brace of the night thanks to a square play by Edward Nketiah to put the icing on the cake and victory for Arsenal as the Gunners go five points clear of Manchester City with 60 points.
Meanwhile, Liverpool defeated Wolves 2-0 at Anfield in the second Premier League fixture of the night as they moved to sixth place.
The first half ended goalless despite efforts by both teams to find a breakthrough. However, Liverpool put the ball past the goalkeeper early minutes of the second half through forward Darwin Nunez.
The goal didn’t stand after Diogo Jota had committed a foul in the build-up to the goal.
However, two goals by Virgil Van Dijk from a header from goalkeeper Jose Sa’s parried ball and Mohammed Salah’s strike from a close range were enough to secure the three points for the Reds.
With the victory, Liverpool jumped to sixth on the table, with 39 points and only six points off the top four spot as they continue to race against other rivals to secure a Champions League place.
