Following the arrival of 50,000 vaccines allocated to the Ogun by the federal government, the state government has decided that frontline health workers would receive the allocated vaccines.

Ogun Commissioner for Health, Tomi Coker, told Peoples Gazette that the frontline workers have been prioritised to receive the first jabs of the vaccines.

Ms. Coker said there are four phases of immunization plans for all residents.

“The vaccine is not for the residents at the moment. There are four phases to immunisation. The first stage is for the frontline workers which includes health workers,” she said.

She added that the vaccine would be distributed in health facilities through the wards.

“We are sharing it through wards from the state to the local government to the wards but it will be in health facilities.”

Ms. Coker emphasized that Governor Dapo Abiodun has demonstrated leadership by receiving the vaccine on Tuesday.

“What he has demonstrated is the safety of the vaccine and embracing the whole process of being immunised being a strategic leader. I think he is one of the best people to lead people on the importance of receiving the vaccine,” the commissioner said.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Kunle Somorin, also corroborated the statement made by the commissioner that the vaccines will be distributed in wards.

“Ogun got 100,000 units. So, not less than 100,000 in the first instance. More tranches will follow. All the Primary Health Centers in all the 236 wards in Ogun state will have access to the vaccine,” he said.

“All frontline workers will be inoculated. The first two people to get was a doctor at the Isolation centre and a cleaner from one of our Isolation centres,” he added.
