The police in Ondo have apprehended seven suspected “dreadful cult members” who had been terrorising and killing people in Owo town.

The suspects: Monday Fadaunsi, 27; Oluwafemi Ajayi, 34; Monday Adewale, 22; Olamide Olopona, 27; Michael Ifedayo, 20; Isiaka Jimoh, 30; and Ojo Olatunji, 35, were at a hideout when they were arrested by the tactical team of the police which was led by the Area Commander, Owo.

The suspects were paraded before journalists at the police headquarters on Tuesday, in Akure.

Recall that The Gazette had a few days ago reported how three persons were murdered in a renewed cult clash in Owo – Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s hometown.

The clash was between two rival groups of Aiye and Eiye confraternity groups.

In the earlier report, a source who didn’t want his name mentioned had said the groups were killing their “targets” and taking their bodies away.

Speaking while parading the suspects, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, police spokesperson in Ondo, said they were nabbed during a raid on the affected areas in Owo town.

“Based on the dreadful activities of cultists in Owo and its environs, the command organised raids of the affected areas, and busted their hideouts,” Mrs Odunlami-Omisanya said.
