At least three people have reportedly been killed in Owo, Owo Local Council Area of Ondo, in a renewed clash between two rival cult groups.

Peoples Gazette gathered that the cult clash was between members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternity group, in the city.

A source who does want his name mentioned said the group were killing their “targets” and taking their bodies away.

“As of yesterday, three men have been downed and their bodies were taken away by the killers,” he said.

The Gazette gathered that there had been reports of sporadic shooting in some areas of Owo since Tuesday with some residents leaving in fear.

It was unclear if the victims are also members of the cult groups or innocent people.

Police spokesperson in Ondo, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the cult clash on Wednesday in a brief telephone chat.

Mrs Odunlami-Omisanya said the men of the anti-cultism unit have already been deployed to the city to restore order and fish out the perpetrators.

“The Police is currently on patrol within Owo but no one is ready to report or even assist us with information,” she told The Gazette.

She, however, added that the perpetrators of the ongoing killings would soon be arrested and brought to book.

Commandant of the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, who also confirmed the incident said the situation has now been brought under control.

“Yes, we are aware of this but our men and other security agents are already out there to arrest the culprit,” Mr Adeleye added.
