In the wake of the recent onslaught of leaked nudes and sex tapes circulating on social media, the Lagos State police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, has advised Nigerians on how to stay safe sharing nudes.

Speaking on his X account on Wednesday, he outlined precautionary measures to be taken if one must send nudes.

He wrote: “If you must send nudes, at least do one-view or cover your face or any other identification mark. And do not forget that video calls can be screenshot/recorded. For others, it is a clandestine recording of their intimate moments, of course without consent.”

Mr Hundeyin said victims of blackmail or sextortion have approached him to bemoan their ordeal.

He added, “I have honestly lost count of people, sometimes notable ones, approaching me about someone somewhere blackmailing and extorting them with their nudes.”

“Following the surge in leaked sex tapes and nudes, social media users have continuously inquired about actions that can be taken in the event of such situations. In acknowledgement of these inquiries, the PRO ended with the statement “Trust no one. Take adequate precautions. Trust your instincts too. And do not forget to reach incb.npf.gov.ng in the unfortunate event you fall victim of this.”
