FG committed to increasing investment in sports development: Minister

The Minister of Sports Development, John Owan-Enoh, on Sunday, reassured of the federal government’s commitment to increasing investment in sports development.
Mr Owan-Enoh gave the assurance during a news conference at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta.
He said President Bola Tinubu made the right decision in creating a separate ministry for sports that would help foster national development through sporting activities.
According to him, sporting activities are powerful components that help drive the socio-economic development of a nation.
“The key elements in sports development are infrastructure, incentives, and investment. I can assure you that these are areas we will continue to give priority attention to.
“If we must achieve set goals in sports, then we must as a nation provide the needed framework and increase our investment in sports for a better result.
“Let me quickly add here that the only way we can properly budget for sports in our country is to plan ahead of time,” Mr Owan-Enoh said.
The minister, who commended the Delta government for hosting the youth games, noted that the beauty of the games was far beyond mere participation.
According to him, the beauty of the youth games lies in the medals to be won, the records that would be broken, and the talents that would be discovered.
