The Delta Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, has assured the state’s people of getting value for their money regarding road infrastructural projects.

Mr Izeze stated this while inspecting some ongoing road projects in the state’s Ughelli North Local Government Area (LAG) on Saturday.

He noted that good road infrastructure was a key component of the ”MORE agenda” of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration. He added that the present administration was determined to succeed in that regard.

The commissioner, who was conducted around the project sites by the chairman of Obakpor Engineering, handlers of the projects, John Oguma, said his office would maintain standards on road projects under its supervision.

Mr Izeze, a former member of the state House of Assembly, disclosed that the four major link road projects in Ughelli Urban were awarded to decongest the daily gridlock at the Otowodo junction of the Ughelli-Patani East-West road and the environs.

He commended the contracting firm for the meaningful progress made on the job only a few weeks after they were mobilised to the site.

He said that for durability, the state government awarded concrete roads with drains on both sides to distil water to natural waterways.

The commissioner also said that the government’s decision to expand and complete all critical ongoing projects, including those initiated by the past administrations, was novel and had received much commendation within and outside the state.

He assured the people of the state of regular visits to road project sites for on-the-spot assessment of the progress of work and to ensure that jobs awarded were being executed according to specifications.

Mr Izeze also noted that the era of delivering substandard roads was over, warning that any firm found executing shoddy jobs would face the law and refund every penny paid to it by the government.
