APC youths label Ondo PDP mischievous for demanding Gov. Akeredolu’s whereabouts

The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Southwest has criticised the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State for demanding the whereabouts of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Addressing journalists on Thursday in Akure, Kolade Lawal, the zonal youth leader of the governing APC, described the members of the opposition party as “mischievous” for demanding Mr Akeredolu’s whereabouts.
“It’s not the best time for an individual or group of people to play politics with the whereabouts of Governor Akeredolu. I know the governor will be rejoining us in a few days in line with the threats of the opposition.
“The call for the governor’s whereabouts stems from a place of love for him. When the opposition asked the question, it was born out of mischief. You have the right to protest, but it should not undermine the administration of Governor Akeredolu,” he said.
This comes after the opposition party and critics issued a three-day ultimatum to Mr Akeredolu, either to resume his duties or resign from office, following his continued absence from the state.
Mr Lawal explained that Mr Akeredolu had not breached any law to warrant the noise about his whereabouts by the opposition party members or his resignation from office.
Mr Lawal said the governor has been meeting with relevant stakeholders, including traditional rulers, on the affairs of the state, and there’s no gap in the governance of the state despite his presence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo.
“There’s no gap in the governance of the state. Everything is going smoothly. The governor is in Ibadan, and we will ensure that he interfaces with the people of the state.
“The governor will reunite with the people of the state in no time. So, it’s not the best time to play politics, even as the PDP is fast going into extinction,” he added.
Mr Lawal said Mr Akeredolu has been performing his official duties, including the payment of salaries, and meeting with members of the State Executive Council, even though he has not physically returned to the state.
He said, “Akeredolu’s administration has continued to show unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare. We are aware that salaries are being paid up to date. Just last week, the governor approved the payment of the leave bonus. The administration’s commitment to good governance and the welfare of its workforce is unparalleled.
“As part of the efforts to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, Governor Akeredolu’s administration has also embarked on the distribution of palliatives across the 18 local government areas of the state. This underlines Mr Governor’s steadfast dedication to those in need.
“Several ongoing major road construction projects and other initiatives throughout the state demonstrate the administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing infrastructure and ensuring the welfare of the people. Presently, this administration is constructing the first flyover in Akure, the state capital. It’s a major stride.”
