The police command in Ekiti has rescued two-year-old twin babies after they were locked up in a room by their mother for three days.

The woman and the babies live in Igbara-Odo, Ekiti South-West local government area, according to a statement by Sunday Abutu, the command’s spokesman.

Mr Abutu said the command acted on a good Samaritan distress call and rescued the babies who were without food for three days.

He said a lady, identified as Joy Fatoba, locked up her twin babies in a room, threatening to kill them should anyone compel her to open the door.

According to him, Ms Fatoba accused the babies’ father of abandoning her during pregnancy and refused to take care of her and the twins.

“She told her interrogator that she could no longer fend for herself and her two kids recently because her hairdressing work started failing,” Mr Abutu added.

The police said the two-year-old babies appeared unhealthy when rescued and could neither walk nor stand on their own due to dehydration and undernutrition, disclosing that it had taken the babies to the hospital.

Mr Abutu said the command would ensure the babies and their mother’s safety.

He added that an investigation into the case had begun.

Abutu urged residents in the area to promptly draw the attention of the nearest police station to any suspicious happenings or call 08062335577.
