As part of the preparation to ensure tight security for the festive period, no fewer than fifty suspects have been arrested for different crimes by operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo.

On Thursday, Adetunji Adeleye, Amotekun commander, at its headquarters in Akure, revealed that the suspects were nabbed through intel and victims’ complaints.

“So, some of these suspects were arrested for being involved in kidnapping activities, vandalism, housebreaking, illegal possession of arms, threat to life, attempted robbery, stealing of fuel and destruction,” said Mr Adeleye.

The Amotekun commander explained that the arrest of the suspect was part of the commitment of the security outfit to ensure “zero tolerance to crime” in Ondo, especially with the ember period.

He revealed that as part of intelligence gathering, Amotekun operatives had been spread across the nooks and crannies of Ondo and in the street to ensure adequate security and foster possible violence during festivity.

Mr Adeleye added, “We have commenced streets by street patrol. The reason is that we have reports and instances of shop breaking and burglary. We now decided to post those in uniform and plain-clothes officers to the streets.

“We have also posted our men around the financial institutions to keep vigil at the banks and ensure there’s no security threat in the state during this yuletide period.”

While noting that the security outfit remained resolute in making Ondo crime-free, Mr Adeleye assured that Amotekun will continue to join hands with other sister security agencies to fight criminality in Ondo.

“The summary is that we remain resolute in our slogan of zero tolerance to crime, and we want to assure the good people of Ondo state that we would continue to protect the lives and properties of the residents of the state,” he stressed.
