Amotekun boss urges Tinubu’s govt. to fix Owo-Ifon road to curb kidnapping, killings

President Bola Tinubu-led federal government has been asked to urgently intervene by repairing the Owo/Ifon Expressway in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state.
Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of the Amotekun Corps, while fielding questions from journalists in Akure, the state capital, lamented over the incessant kidnapping on the road.
Mr Adeleye said the failed portion of the road, which shares border towns and communities with Edo State, had fuelled insecurity.
He disclosed that the operatives of the Amotekun Corps deployed to the road to curb criminal activities and protect lives and properties.
“Our men are always in the forest to curtail the excesses of these criminals who want to take advantage of this bad road,” said Mr Adeleye. “To put a stop to it, the federal government should quickly repair this Owo-Ifon road and make it pliable for commuters to reduce crimes in Ondo State.”
While identifying unemployment and economic instability as reasons for increased crime, Mr Adeleye also pleaded with the government to provide social insurance to the unemployed youths in the country.
“I think the government should provide elaborate job opportunities. We all know the economic situation of the country is harsh and tough. In view of this, the government should increase the palliatives to even those who cannot feed.
“The palliatives should be for those who find it difficult to feed themselves. There should be social insurance for the jobless to feed them. Once they can feed, we can now ask them why they go into criminality,” the Amotekun boss added.
Peoples Gazette reports that the failed portion of the road has become a nightmare for motorists following the incessant kidnappings, robberies and killings on the routes.
Among the cases was the murder of a first-class traditional ruler of Ifon, the Olufon of Ifon in Ose LGA of the state, Oba Israel Adeusi, who suspected kidnappers shot in November 2020.
Also, suspected gunmen in September abducted 25 choir members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igan, Akure, on the route.
