Police arrest Abike Dabiri’s orderly who killed teenager in Abuja beer parlour

Bala Ciroma, Abuja police commissioner, has confirmed the arrest of Samanja Johnson for killing a teenager at a beer parlour in Abuja over the weekend.
Mr. Johnson, a police inspector whom the Gazette has now learnt was Abike Dabiri-Erewa’s aide-de-camp, shot Samson John in Apo Dutse on October 3.
Peoples Gazette reported that Mr. Johnson was drunk when he opened fire and fatally wounded Mr. John, a 19-year-old who had done nothing to enrage him.
Mr. John was murdered while having his breakfast at the joint, where Mr. Johnson had come to drink just before 9:00 a.m., the Gazette learnt. Witnesses said the police officer drank ‘burukutu’, a combination of grains and Guinea corn that could easily be brewed into alcohol.
Mr. Johnson was arrested and Mr. Ciroma “ordered a meticulous investigation into the unfortunate gunshot incident,” police said.
He “will be charged accordingly,” police said, adding that findings of the investigation would be made public.
Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on diaspora matters, has long enjoyed special police protection. She has yet to comment on his orderly’s action and a family source of the victim told the Gazette the top administration official had yet to reach out to them to offer condolences.
Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa did not return a request for comments from the Gazette Wednesday afternoon.
