The Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, on Tuesday commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for what he described as lofty achievements in sports development in the state in 2023.

Mr Gafaar gave the commendation while reflecting on the journey of the sports commission for the 2023 calendar year.

The LSSC boss said that the various achievements made by the sports commission were made possible through the support from the state government.

He said, “It has been an eventful year for us at LSSC. The events showed the standpoint of our commitment, we showed strength and unity, also, we are passionate about what we did. We are proud of all of our efforts and to God be the glory; after this, we want to say a big thank you to the Lagos State Sports loving Governor Olusola Sanwo-Olu for always being there for us and always coming to our aid at all times.

“Whenever we call, he always hears our cry; Governor Sanwo-Olu has shown us love especially to the children because he understands that sports is for the youth. Our governor is neck deep in supporting sports activities in Lagos State knowing that sports remains one of the avenues to actively engage the youth and take them off the streets.’’

Mr Gafaar also stated that the THEME agenda had been helpful in promoting sports and girl child education in the state.

“This heavy investment is in line with the THEME agenda of the governor which also includes the education of the girl child in a holistic approach which also includes sports. We have staged many sporting events on the support of the governor which included the youth games, para games, training of athletes among other things and we can also see a massive sports infrastructure ongoing in Lagos State.

“We have a mandate to keep Lagos in the forefront of sports activities in Nigeria, which is not so in other climes and we are enjoying this leverage because we have a supportive governor,” he said.
