Lagos govt. seals hotel in Abule-Egba for noise pollution

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed off Carizma Hotel and Luxury Suites in the Abule-Egba area of the state.
Disclosing this in a statement on its official X account on Wednesday, the agency said the exercise was “in furtherance of its campaign against noise pollution and other environmental infractions.”
LASEPA attached to the statement the ‘Abatement of Noise Pollution” notice issued to the hotel, dated November 8, 2022, and signed by LASEPA General Manager, Dr Babatunde Ajayi, as well as the letter of understanding signed by the Manager of the hotel, Aguiyi Fidelis and dated November 22, 2022.
However, the agency stated that “despite receiving multiple warnings and agreeing to guidelines in previous meetings with the agency, the hotel failed to comply with stipulated noise levels.
“The decision to seal the hotel was made and carried out today, 27th December 2023, after it violated the terms outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding signed during earlier meetings, which included commitments to cease noisy activities by 10 p.m. and adhere to approved noise levels,” it explained.
