The Head of Iran’s National Medical Emergency Organisation, Jafar Miadfar, on Thursday revised the death toll at the blasts near Gen. Quassem Soleimani’s grave to 84.

According to the state news agency, IRNA, the state media had initially given the death toll as 103 on Wednesday, but Health Minister Bahram Einollahi said it was 95, hours later, adding that 284 were injured.

Mr Miadfar said that the confusion surrounding the casualty figures was due to the condition of the bodies.

On the fourth anniversary of the death of powerful Iranian Gen. Quassem Soleimani, two explosions occurred in his home town of Kerman, near his burial site, as commemoration was taking place on Wednesday.

The Iranian Government called it a terrorist attack.

The German Government and the European Union condemned the attack as an act of terrorism.

It was the deadliest attack in the 45-year history of the Islamic republic. The motive and who is responsible remain unknown. (dpa/NAN)
