Man City defeat Spurs to lift fourth consecutive League Cup trophy

Pep Guardiola has won his fourth consecutive English League Cup trophy after Aymeric Laporte’s header in the 82nd minute gave Manchester City the victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Tottenham came into the match just a few days after sacking former manager Jose Mourinho, replacing him with 29-year-old Ryan Mason.
The Citizens who are currently leading the English Premier League table with eleven points dominated the match with 65 per cent of possession.
However, Laporte escaped being sent off in the 24th minute for committing a foul on Spurs’ Lucas Moura.
Spurs stood resilient against the intense attack of Manchester City from Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Kelvin De Bruyne.
With his 17th assist of the season in all competitions, Kelvin De Bruyne assisted Laporte’s goal with a free kick from the left corner.
The goal was Laporte’s eighth career goal and his second in the competition this season.
Tottenham have now been denied their chance at clinching a trophy in over two decades with the loss to City.
Pep Guardiola has now coached teams to 14 victories out of 15 finals he has played conceding five goals and scoring 34 in the process.
Manchester City have also now recorded history by winning the league cup four times consecutively since the 2018 season.
Only Jose Mourinho, Sir Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough have also won the League Cup four times in the history of the competition.
