Army seeks traditional rulers’ intervention to tackle crime in Plateau

The commander of the 24 Armour Brigade, Haruna Bala, urged traditional institutions and community members in Wase, Plateau State, to provide timely and credible intelligence on criminal activities to enable troops to respond promptly to security threats.
He made this call during a visit to the Rekna of Bashar, Abdullahi Idris Isah, who highlighted security concerns, including kidnapping, cattle rustling, and armed robbery.
Mr Haruna assured the monarch of a comprehensive assessment of the challenges and urged the emirate council and residents to strengthen cooperation with troops through actionable information.
The commander had earlier visited the 175 motorcycle battalion in Wase, where he stated the recent expansion, renaming, and restructuring of some Nigerian Army units.
He said the expansion aimed to strengthen troop presence, extend operational reach, and enhance the capacity to respond promptly to security threats.
Mr Haruna further inspected the proposed site for constructing new barracks for the battalion to improve troop accommodation and strengthen operational effectiveness in the area.
He said the visit highlights the army’s commitment to improving troop welfare and collaborating with traditional institutions and community members to tackle security challenges.
