World Food Programme gets 2020 Nobel Peace Prize
The World Food has been awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict, the Nobel committee announced on Friday.
The committee explained its decision in a series of tweets Friday morning.
The WFP promptly appreciated the honour in a tweet, saying the award marked a power reminder that peace and adequate food supply go hand-in-hand.
The Nobel committee members in Sweden and Norway have already announced the winners for chemistry, medicine, literature, amongst other 2020 prizes.
