Nigeria beat Cameroon to reach AFCON quarterfinals

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have advanced to the quarterfinals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a well-deserved 2-0 victory over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Saturday evening.
A brace from Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman in both halves secured the win in the round of 16 game, propelling Nigeria to the next round at the expense of a familiar foe.
Lookman’s first goal came just before halftime, following unselfish play from Victor Osimhen, who capitalized on a defensive error by the Cameroonian defender to pass to his compatriot.
His second goal arrived in the 90th minute after being set up by Calvin Bassey. Lookman, positioned inside the 18-yard box, capitalised on a mistake to find the back of the net, securing Nigeria’s advancement.
With this victory, Nigeria has already surpassed its performance in the last edition when they were eliminated at this stage following a 1-0 loss to Tunisia.
Next, Nigeria will face Angola, who defeated Namibia 3-0 earlier on Monday, in the quest for a place in the semifinals.
