Cleaner arraigned over alleged theft of employer’s N780,000

A 29-year-old cleaner, Rakiya Garba, was on Thursday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing N780, 000 belonging to her employer, Hajiya Aisha Sadiq.
The defendant, who resides in Malali Kaduna, was charged with breach of trust and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 27 at Ungwan Sarki in Kaduna State.
Mr Leo said that the defendant who is a cleaner for the complainant went into her bedroom and stole N780, 000 meant for the complainant’s children tuition fees.
He said that during the police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime and the sum of N380, 000 was recovered from her.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted her bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum, one of who must be a blood relation.
Mr Emmanuel said that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
He adjourned the case until March 7 for hearing.
