The Lagos Waste Management Authority has deployed additional workers and equipment to support the October monthly environmental sanitation exercise across Lagos.

The exercise covered areas like Ikorodu and Ikeja as part of a push to promote clean streets and teach residents how to handle waste properly. According to a statement on Sunday, LAWMA’s executive director of finance, Kunle Adebiyi, led LAWMA’s sanitation team in Ikorodu.

The team carried out cleanup operations on Ladega Street and nearby streets in the Ajina community, supporting the statewide exercise.

Mr Adebiyi said this deployment shows LAWMA’s dedication to supporting government efforts to keep the environment cleaner.

Mr Adebiyi urged residents to sustain the exercise’s impact by disposing of waste properly, keeping their surroundings tidy, and avoiding random dumping of rubbish on roads, drains, and other public places.

He also asked businesses, community leaders, and residents to share responsibility for keeping the environment clean, stressing that lasting results require sanitation habits that go beyond the monthly exercise.

The exercise was attended by the first lady of Lagos, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, and other senior government officials, including secretaries, directors, and environmental health officers.

In Ikeja, LAWMA also backed sanitation activities guided by the Lagos’ head of service, Bode Agoro.

The team visited Onilekere, Saidu, Olumo, and nearby streets to carry out cleanup operations.

This deployment shows the state government’s push to improve environmental sanitation, while residents are encouraged to keep their surroundings clean and adopt responsible waste-disposal habits.
