Police arraign Ekiti man for assaulting two sisters

The police, on Thursday, arraigned 36-year-old Ayodele Ogunsola before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for assault.
The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on assault.
The police prosecutor, ASP Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 26 at about 12:45 am at Sharp Corner brothel, Oke-Bola Area in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that there was an argument between the defendant and one Taiwo Adeloye, and in the process, he stabbed her in the left arm with a broken bottle.
Mr Leramo said the defendant also gave her a blow on her mouth and knocked off one front tooth.
He further alleged that the defendant also stabbed the complainant’s twin sister, Kehinde, on her cheek and arms when she came to defend her sister.
According to him, the offences contravened sections 255, 256(a), and 186 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
Mr Leramo asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Counsel for the defendant, Olawumi Olowolafe, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising he would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Saka Afunso, granted the defendant N25,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Mr Afunso said the surety must present three years’ evidence of tax clearance.
He adjourned the case to February 19 for a hearing.
