The Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benneth Igweh, had ordered a total clampdown on vehicles without number plates or a single number plate plying the FCT roads.

The police public relations officer in the territory, SP Josephine Adeh, communicated this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

The commissioner spoke during a meeting with the management team, leaders of all tactical units and heads of departments of the FCT Police Command, including area commanders and DPOs.

Mr Igweh said the meeting was to revamp the approach of the already existing security framework and set in motion the plan to ensure the safety of FCT residents.

He urged the senior police officers to embrace intelligence-led and visibility policing through constant stop-and-search operations to win the fight against criminality.

Mr Igweh warned that he would not tolerate laxity and urged the heads of tactical units to identify black spots and possible kidnappers’ den and take the fight to them.

The CP called on area commanders and DPOs to adopt effective community partnerships in policing the FCT.

He pledged the command’s readiness to combat criminality in the FCT and called on residents to collaborate with the police and avoid boarding vehicles along the road and unapproved parks.

The CP called on residents to report suspicious activities to the command through 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883.
