Over one million complaints received, 716,000 petitions resolved, says PCC

The Public Complaints Commission says it received 1,281,984 complaints in the last two years and resolved 716,688 of them.
PCC’s chief commissioner, Bashir Abubakar, disclosed this on Tuesday during a news conference on his stewardship.
Mr Abubakar recalled that he assumed office on September 24, 2024, alongside 37 federal commissioners representing the 36 states and Abuja. He said the leadership of the National Assembly charged them to sanitise and reposition the PCC for effective service delivery.
According to him, the PCC, established in 1975 as Nigeria’s foremost ombudsman, is mandated to investigate maladministration, corruption and abuse of office. He said the commission also safeguards the rights of citizens and non-citizens in dealings with public institutions and private organisations.
Mr Abubakar said his administration proposed over a 100 per cent increase in the PCC’s Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, leading to improved budgetary allocation. According to him, the commission has begun implementing the full Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure from July 2026.
He said this has empowered the commission to pay its workforce full salaries, in addition to settling outstanding arrears. The arrears, according to him, include wage award, 2024 and 2025 promotion arrears.
Mr Abubakar added that monthly allocations to all state offices, including Abuja, have been increased to boost operations. He pointed out that PCC conducted biometric verification in all its offices nationwide to establish a verifiable nominal roll. He said the commission created new directorates to enhance operational efficiency due to an increased complaint index.
The PCC chief said over 1,185 staff were trained in 2024, while 3,410 workers have been trained so far in 2026. He said the ICT unit and call centre were upgraded to enhance visibility and public access. He said the commission also launched an aggressive publicity drive, which led to a surge in complaints.
According to him, industrial harmony exists between management and unions, with an open-door policy entrenched for a robust relationship. He said 1,070 staff were promoted in 2025, while 1,270 were promoted in 2026.
