Oba Rafiu Balogun, the Elejirin of Ejirin Kingdom in Epe, Lagos, has called on the federal government to regulate prices of foodstuffs and other household commodities.

Mr Balogun said the measure would reduce the suffering of poor Nigerians.

The Epe ruler spoke in an interview at Ejirin on Wednesday.

He said prices of foodstuffs and other commodities had been rising uncontrollably, inflicting much economic hardship on the citizens.

Balogun said the federal government should urgently introduce measures to control the rising cost of foodstuffs and other goods.

“Cost of commodities is skyrocketing day-by-day. Government needs to intervene before it goes out of hand,’’ he said.

The traditional ruler also appealed to the government to release any reserve grains and other farm produce to farmers to boost food production.

“The government should also look into the fluctuating prices of petroleum products,” he added.

He also appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the economic planning of President Bola Tinubu and his team members toward revamping Nigeria.

He implored traders not to arbitrarily increase prices of food items and other commodities.

Mr Balogun said people at the grassroots level were the worst hit by the economic hardship in the country.
