The United States of America has announced that they will be prioritising student visa applications from Nigeria.

The Statement from the U.S. Mission says this will “ensure Nigerian students resuming this Fall get visa interview appointments well in advance of their program start date.”

The Consular Coordinator for Nigeria, Susan Tuller, announced on Friday that the embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will aid student visa applicants to meet their deadlines while complying with covid-19 safety guidelines.

“We will increase the number of student visa appointments in May and June to ensure that we can offer appointments to as many students as possible.  If your U.S. studies are scheduled to begin this Fall, we encourage you to schedule your appointment as quickly as possible,” Ms Tuller said.

Ms Tuller underlined the importance of booking all student visa appointments  through the U.S. Travel Docs website at www.ustraveldocs.com/ng, warning  applicants against using third-party services.

The press release also noted that Nigeria sends more students to American colleges and universities than any other country in Africa and currently holds the eleventh largest source worldwide of international students to the United States.
