2027: Atiku’s ex-aide urges Igbos, other non-indigenes in Ogun to support Tinubu’s reelection
Segun Sowunmi, former aide to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has urged non-indigenes in Ogun to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s reelection.
Mr Sowunmi made the call in Abeokuta on Saturday while addressing representatives of various non-indigenous groups in Ogun, including Igbo Youth Association, Igede, Tiv, Calabar, Edo, Arewa and Igala communities.
He described the 2027 presidential election as an “election of life” and urged the groups to ensure massive turnout and support for Mr Tinubu.
Mr Sowunmi appealed to the groups to mobilise voters across Ogun Central, Ogun East and Ogun West for Mr Tinubu during the election.
He said Ogun Central had over one million registered voters, urging residents to work toward delivering the highest possible number of votes to Tinubu.
“I am begging you in the name of God Almighty, let us mobilise until, if possible, we take the whole one million votes for Tinubu,” he said.
Mr Sowunmi also urged voters in Ogun West, which he said had over 900,000 registered voters, to mobilise massively for Mr Tinubu.
“Tinubu’s performance should be considered in deciding whether he deserves another term, rather than allowing political differences to determine voting decisions.
“Non-indigenes should regard Ogun as their home because many have lived peacefully and prospered in the state without discrimination.
“The prosperity and peaceful environment enjoyed by residents should encourage them to support the continued development of the state and the country,” he said.
Mr Sowunmi urged the groups to return to their communities and mobilise their members to vote massively for Mr Tinubu and other candidates supporting his administration.
He also highlighted federal government projects in the Middle Belt, including a new military base, proposed state police, and road projects linking Benue communities with Abuja.
Mr Sowunmi said the 2027 election should be used to make a strong statement that no individual or ethnic group was more important than another in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Francis Nwaeze, chairman, Non-Indigene Association of Ogun State, Egba Zone, expressed readiness to work and achieve victory for Tinubu’s reelection.
“We are your supporters, and we want to assure you that we will not allow you to fall. We are fully behind you and the reelection of Tinubu as well as committed to supporting your political movement,” he said.
Mr Nwaeze called for a rally which would enable the wider public to see the strength of the support base working for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
