Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested two armed robbery suspects who dress in military uniforms to rob road users of their possessions.

Disclosing this in a statement on the command’s official handle on Saturday, the state police public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the suspects, Abdullahi Basso and Saidu Isah, were arrested on February 22, 2024, at Kwanar Kare, along Doma-Rukubi Road, where they usually block the road to commit the crime.

According to the command’s spokesperson, the pair, who were about to carry out their usual crime, were also caught in possession of N300,000 cash, a knife, and other items. He added that they also confessed to dispossessing one Mallam Barka of N500,000 at the same spot last week.

The statement read, “Inundated by complaints of weekly armed robberies on Thursday nights by persons clad in military uniforms along Doma-Rukubi Road of Ekye Development Area, Doma LGA; the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada psc, mni, emplaced mechanisms to tackle the ugly occurrences.

“Consequently, on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at about 1800hrs, police operatives attached to Ekye Division laid a successful ambush on the criminals at Kwanar Kare; a dangerous spot along Doma-Rukubi Road where armed robbers usually block the road and rob unsuspecting road users.

“The duo of Abdullahi Basso and Saidu Isah, both males of Rugan Maigari, Rukubi village, dressed in military uniforms, were arrested at the scene while about to carry out their operation. The sum of three hundred thousand naira cash (N300,000), a knife, and other items were recovered from them as exhibits.

“The suspects confessed to having attacked one Mallam Barka at the same spot last week, where they dispossessed him of the sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000),” he added.

Mr Nansel stated that the police commissioner, while commending the officers of the command for the arrest, urged them to sustain the onslaught against criminals.
