LIVE: Nigerians, friends continue worldwide push to #EndSARS
Nigerians and their friends are taking to the streets today, continuing a protest that started obscurely in 2017 but now spreading across the world at a dizzying streak.
The latest protests to end the police special anti-robbery squad started on Monday and held throughout the week.
President Muhammadu Buhari rejected the demand to scrap the unit, which has been blamed for decades of grievous rights abuses, corruption and indiscriminate use of lethal force.
Mr. Buhari said he prefers to reform the unit, but Nigerians insist it must be scrapped then replaced with a more humane and professional squad.
Top celebrities and activists across the world, including John Boyega, Cardi B, Wizkid, Banky W, Segun Awosanya, amongst others, have been adding their voices.
Nigerians at home continue the protests this weekend in Lagos. Nigerians in New York, Washing D.C., London, Germany and other locations are gearing up for demonstrations.
