The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) director-general, Yusha’u Ahmed, has tasked corps members to be productive and participate actively in community development programmes during the mandatory one-year national service.

Mr Ahmed gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A stream 1′ Orientation programme for corps members at the camp in Sokoto on Wednesday.

He advised them to accept their postings in good faith, integrate with residents of their host communities, and contribute to the area’s growth.

Mr Ahmed also urged the corps members to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities, ensure peaceful coexistence, be resilient, and add value to the communities.

“Take security issues seriously, read the instructions in your manual and abide by them accordingly. Your security is our concern, but no one can secure you more than yourself,” said the NYSC boss.

He emphasised the need for 1590 corps members posted to Sokoto and Zamfara, who were at the orientation camp in Sokoto, to actively participate in the entrepreneurship skills training programmes.

In Delta, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori urged the corps members to embrace diversity and be responsible citizens wherever they were posted for primary assignments.

Mr Oborevwori made the call on Wednesday while speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch A’ Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Issele-Uku.

Mr Oborevwori said the lessons and knowledge learnt in camp would enable the corps members to cope with the new realities they would face during the service year.

“I can assure you that as you leave here, you are going into the receptive and warm embrace of Deltans, wherever you find yourselves,” he said.

Also, Governor Abdullahi Sule appealed to employers in Nasarawa not to reject corps members posted to their establishment for the service year.

Mr Sule made the appeal on Wednesday in Keffi at the closing ceremony of the orientation of 2024 Batch A Stream 1 corps members posted to the state.

Mr Sule also urged the corps members to accept their postings in good faith, as they were made in accordance with the scheme’s policies and the state’s needs.

“Therefore, see your posting as a clarion call to render selfless service to the good people of the state,” the governor said.
