Spain’s industrial production continues to decline as Germany’s recover

Spain’s industrial production continued to fall in January, data from the statistical office INE showed on Friday.
Industrial output posted an annual decrease of 0.6 per cent but slower than the 1.4 per cent fall in December.
On an unadjusted basis, industrial production advanced 3.6 per cent annually, reversing a 4.9 per cent drop.
Among components, only capital goods recovered in January, which gained 3.6 per cent.
Consumer goods production registered the biggest annual fall of 1.8 per cent.
Output of intermediate goods and energy slid 0.7 per cent and 0.1 per cent, respectively.
Industrial output increased 0.4 per cent month over month, partially offsetting the 0.6 per cent decrease in December.
Meanwhile, Germany’s industrial production expanded in January, figures from Destatis showed on Friday.
Industrial production posted a monthly growth of one per cent, in contrast to the two per cent fall in December. Output was expected to climb 0.6 per cent.
Excluding energy and construction, industrial output gained 1.1 per cent from December.
Production of intermediate goods moved up 4.4 per cent, and consumer goods output climbed 4 per cent.
Meanwhile, the output of capital goods was down 2.1 per cent.
Data showed that energy production recorded a decline of 3.7 per cent in January.
On the other hand, construction output increased by 2.7 per cent compared to the previous month.
