LPPC suspends Mike Ozekhome as SAN

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended Mike Ozekhome’s Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank pending the outcome of proceedings before the disciplinary and ethics sub-committee.
The LPPC said in a statement by Kabir Akanbi, the Supreme Court’s chief registrar, and the LPPC secretary, that the decision was taken during the committee’s 173rd general meeting on Tuesday.
The committee said the suspension is aimed at protecting the integrity of the SAN rank.
“The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), at its 173rd General Meeting held on 23d June 2026, approved the suspension of Chief Mike Ozekhome from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria,” it said.
The LPPC added, “Accordingly, Chief Mike Ozekhome shall refrain from parading himself, presenting himself, or otherwise holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria pending the final determination of the disciplinary proceedings.”
The LPPC reiterated its commitment to upholding the ethical standards of the legal profession and ensuring the integrity of the SAN rank.
Mr Ozekhome is currently being prosecuted at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court alongside Ponfa Useni, the son of the late Jeremiah Useni, whose property in the United Kingdom is under dispute.
The federal government arraigned the duo before Justice Chizoba Oji on 12 counts of fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud.
Mr Ozekhome is being accused of using a fake Nigerian passport to claim a UK property belonging to the late Mr Useni, a retired lieutenant-general who once worked with General Sani Abacha, Nigeria’s late dictator.
